Artel and SLAS Co-host “Liquid Handling Essentials” Short Course at SLAS2017

WESTBROOK, ME (February 2, 2017) – Artel, the leader in liquid handling quality assurance, will partner with the Society for Automation and Screening (SLAS) in producing a conference short course at the SLAS2017 International Conference and Exposition in Washington D.C. Based on content developed by Artel, “Liquid Handling Essentials – An Interactive Course” will provide in-depth instruction on key topics, issues and techniques for the laboratory science and technology community. Participants can register online at: http://www.slas2017.org/registration/

Designed for new and beginning users, the course utilizes experienced expert instructors, multiple liquid handling platforms, and several “case studies” to illustrate principles essential to achieving reliable assay results. Participants will gain the basic skills needed to achieve early success in managing the performance of their liquid handlers

“Artel is extremely pleased to share our expertise, and to work alongside SLAS and the collaborating leading manufacturers,” says Dana Campbell, chief instructor and field applications specialist with Artel. “The course allows us to assist technologists and scientists engaged in a myriad of laboratory processes – and help them gain proficiency in dealing with their liquid handling strategies and challenges. It is a thrill to be part of the interaction and the transfer of knowledge that this course has become known for”.

Instructors for the course will be Dana Campbell, applications specialist, Artel; Nathaniel Hentz, Ph.D., technology training director, North Carolina State University, Keith Albert, Ph.D., senior applications scientist, Artel, Lisa Knapp, field applications scientist, Agilent Technologies.

In addition to the short course, Artel will be providing a number of educational opportunities targeting fundamental laboratory challenges. New this year are tightly focused, short (10 minute), in-booth talks on four issues relevant to anyone concerned with laboratory results and productivity:

  • Tutorial: Best Diagnostics for Equipment Calibration and Analytical Controls in the Diagnostics Laboratory” Feb 7, 12:30-1:15, Room 144B
  • Poster: Improving Assay Performance Using a Process Optimization Approach”  Feb 7, 1:00-3:00, Poster #1122
  • In-Booth Talks – Artel Booth #737:
    • “Room for Improvement? A Case for Process Optimization” Feb 6, 2:00, Nathaniel Hentz, Ph.D., training director North Carolina State University
    • “Controls vs. Calibrations – Do You Need Both?” Feb 6, 3:00, Rebecca Butler, automation engineering manager, CareDx
    • “The New ISO IWA 15 For Liquid Handling – How It Will Help” Feb 7, 2:00, George Rodrigues, senior scientific manager, Artel
    • NGS – New Challenges for QC” Feb 7, 3:00, Lisa Knapp, field applications scientist, Agilent Technologies
